Pure, unadulterated inventiveness II: The single-core A/D converter

09.08.2010

One way of achieving high conversion rates to date – 10 Gsample/s here – has been to use multiple A/D converters operating in parallel with time offset. This results in something of a mismatch because not all of the A/D converters behave in exactly the same way. Instead, state-of-the-art silicon-germanium technology from IHP in Frankfurt/Oder was used to create a powerful folding/interpolation A/D converter. It achieves more than seven effective bits, an exceptionally high value. Plus, the noise is low, and mismatches are a thing of the past.
