Pure, unadulterated inventiveness: The recording trigger control ASIC
One of the key components in R&S®RTO scopes is the recording trigger control ASIC. All of the signal processing capabilities are packed onto 250 square millimeters of silicon. That involved exceptional expertise in 90-nanometer technology. Everything was simulated and tested, right down to the very last bit. As a result, the ASIC can capture waveforms at a rate of one million per second, reducing the ratio of blind time to acquisition time to just 10 : 1. In addition, all the chip’s standard functions are implemented on parallel hardware paths, eliminating much of the postprocessing time that accumulates with software-based postprocessing.
